Our First BBQ in 1953 |
The Sertoma Club of Lancaster held its first chicken BBQ in the spring of 1953,
just one year after the club was chartered. Over the following 50 years, the event
has grown to such proportions that it has been listed in the Guiness Book of World
Records as the largest one-day chicken BBQ. The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce president,
Tom Baldrige, stated: "There is no more impactful one-day fundraising event than the
Sertoma Chicken Barbeque." Each year on the third Saturday of May, the Lancaster Sertomans serve
over 30,000+ chicken dinners.
